During NBA All Star Weekend in San Francisco, the spotlight did not just shine on the league’s biggest men’s names. It shifted. It expanded.
Hennessy’s 2x2 Showcase, hosted by A’ja Wilson, brought DiJonai Carrington, Arike Ogunbowale, Jackie Young, and Chelsea Gray in a two on two format that carried the spirit of sisterhood and the familiarity of a pickup game at the park. The intimate two on two format brought elite women’s basketball talent front and center, creating a setting that felt intentional, elevated, and regal.
As one of the faces of the WNBA and a champion who consistently raises the bar, A’ja understands that visibility matters. Hosting an event during NBA All Star Weekend places women’s basketball exactly where it belongs in the middle of the conversation. Beyond the court, the room reflected how deeply women’s basketball intersects with culture. Karrueche Tran, Victoria Monét, and Jordyn Woods were in attendance, reinforcing that this moment extended beyond sport.
Too often, women’s basketball is discussed in comparison. Here, it stood on its own. A’ja was not just participating in All Star Weekend culture. She was shaping it. There is something important about watching a Black woman athlete move as both host and headline. It signals ownership. It signals influence. It signals that partnerships with global brands can reflect culture without diluting it.
