Serayah, Tyler Lepley, and Phylicia Rashad are set to headline a modern retelling of the story of Ruth and Boaz.

Produced by DeVon Franklin (Jumping the Broom, The Pursuit of Happyness), R&B follows a young woman, portrayed by Serayah, who steps away from Atlanta’s music scene to care for an elderly widowed woman played by Phylicia Rashad. Along the way, she discovers not only the love of her life, played by Tyler Lepley, but also the maternal connection she has long been missing. At its core, R&B offers a modern retelling of the biblical story of Ruth and Boaz, grounding its romance in themes of faith, devotion, and generational love.

Beyond the story on screen, R&B marks a significant moment behind the scenes. The film serves as the inaugural release under a major creative partnership between DeVon Franklin, Tyler Perry Studios, and Netflix. In 2024, Franklin and Perry entered a multi-year, multi-picture first-look agreement with the streamer, joining forces to develop a slate of faith-based and uplifting films that expand upon Perry’s long-standing relationship with Netflix.

Through this collaboration, Franklin and Perry share producer credits and a shared vision. Their partnership centers stories that explore love, purpose, and community while amplifying narratives rooted in Black culture and faith. With R&B leading the way, additional projects are already in development, signaling a continued investment in storytelling that resonates emotionally while reaching audiences around the world.
